ABOUT US

our goals and accomplishments

In its first year on campus, WORTH was able to engage its members in active dialogue about prevalent women’s health issues such as menstruation, sexuality and sexual health, the college experience, women in the media, and mental health. Through Focus Groups, members further pursue specific topics of interest by framing women’s health in political, global, cultural, and medical contexts.

Locally, WORTH’s current largest initiative is advocating for the provision of free menstrual products in campus restrooms. Last semester, WORTH conducted a pilot program, funded by Central Student Government, to provide free products in four campus restrooms. Using the data from the pilot study, WORTH collaborated with both Central Student Government and the Residence Halls Association to develop budget plans for the expansion of this program across 150 campus restrooms and all residence halls, currently in the implementation process!

On campus, WORTH has collaborated with the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) to organize and present a workshop about bystander intervention. Last fall, the organization fundraised $500 of menstrual products for Puerto Rico Rises, a Florida non-profit dedicated to Hurricane Maria relief efforts.

WORTH has also expanded its reach to high school students across the state of Michigan. In October, members spoke at a Career Conference entitled “Women in the Workforce” at Rochester High School for the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). In March, WORTH presented a consent and sexuality workshop to Lincoln High School seniors.

Looking ahead, WORTH hopes to continue engaging the campus community through events pertaining to women’s health issues as well as maintaining collaborations with its partner organizations.
