Power

To    The

Period

Our Purpose

With a focus on intersectionality and social identities, our goal is to break down menstruation taboos by providing educational experiences to WORTH members and U of M students. Half of all people menstruate, and menstruation is linked to so many other facets of life, including social, cultural, and economic factors. Only by addressing the interstices of menstruation and other arenas of life can we begin to create a more equitable society that recognizes menstruation as a normal and natural process.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support vulnerable communities in the Ann Arbor area and to raise awareness about menstruation and associated taboos amongst the U of M community.

What we did

In the fall, we used our Instagram account to spread information about Ozone House and to publicize our fundraising efforts. In the winter, we rebranded our Instagram to share menstruation statistics and to amplify WORTH members' experiences on menstruation. Our goal in this approach was to utilize consciousness-raising tactics to develop knowledge about periods rooted in our own experiences. Lastly, we partnered with Days for Girls and the Prison Birth Project to host a Zoom talk with Dr. Frances Fei, a Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology fellow at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Fei spoke to us about menstruation stigma, how to address it, and how it manifests in the connection between the biological and the social. Moving forward, we are planning another speaker event with Aunt Flow, a menstrual product company focused on accessibility.
